Dr. Tim Watkins

Biography

Tim Watkins is a Research Fellow and Biostatistician at the University of New South Wales, affiliated with the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) and the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health. He completed his PhD in Biostatistics at the University of Sydney and The George Institute for Global Health in 2019, following a Master of Biostatistics from the same institution in 2012. His academic background includes a Graduate Diploma in Biochemistry from UNSW and a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Physics and Mathematics from the University of New England, Australia. Dr. Watkins' research interests focus on causal inference and research bias in health interventions, particularly concerning individuals with intellectual disabilities. He works on linked administrative health data to analyze issues like hospital admissions and emergency readmissions for older adults and individuals with conditions such as epilepsy and rare forms of dementia. Additionally, he contributes to methodological research aimed at enhancing the quality of research and reducing bias. His ongoing projects include developing analysis plan templates for observational studies and creating resources to assist researchers in utilizing causal diagrams effectively.
