Dr. Tim Woollings

Biography

Tim Woollings is a Professor in Physical Climate Science at the University of Oxford, where he focuses on large-scale atmospheric dynamics within the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics sub-department. His research interests include understanding weather and climate in mid-latitudes, particularly in relation to jet streams, storm tracks, and large-scale regimes such as blocking. His work contributes to a fundamental understanding of the features of mid-latitude dynamics and their responses to anthropogenic climate change. Recently, he has emphasized the interactions between mid-latitude dynamics and tropical and polar regions. His research aims to improve our comprehension of jet streams, which are crucial components of Earth's weather systems, and how they might impact daily weather and climate across the globe. Additionally, he has authored a book about the jet stream aimed at a general audience.
