Biography

Professor Timothée L. Pourpoint’s research interests relate to propulsion, combustion, and energy storage. His propulsion research focuses on further understanding storable propellant ignition combustion at the system level, testing advanced diagnostic techniques with an emphasis on novel propellant combinations. A major emphasis of his work is the development and characterization of new chemical propellants. His energy storage research involves developing safe and efficient ways to use hydrogen for power generation, combining gas and solid-state storage approaches. Professor Pourpoint's research builds on experience testing capabilities developed in partnership with General Motors to characterize large-scale evaluation of high pressure metal hydrides and adsorbents. He has expertise in high-pressure hydrogen, pyrophoric metal powders, nanoscale materials, and various propellants including monomethyl hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide. He is also involved in designing, implementing, and operating testing facilities in the Maurice Zucrow Laboratories.
