Biography

Dr. Timothy C. Lethbridge is a full professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa. He immigrated to Canada in 1975 from the United Kingdom and has since had a prominent career in academia, focusing on software engineering and education. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science in 1985 and his Master's degree the following year, both from the University of New Brunswick. In 1994, he earned his PhD in the field of usable knowledge management. Dr. Lethbridge has taught over 60 course sections and supervised 30 graduate students in various areas of software engineering and computer science. His research has emphasized the development of systems to aid individuals in managing complex information in software engineering education. He has conducted research in collaboration with several notable companies including Mitel, QNX, IBM, and Ericsson, and currently leads the development of Umple technology, which integrates modeling and programming concepts. In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Lethbridge has held several leadership roles, including Vice-Dean (Governance) and Acting Associate Dean. He is a Professional Engineer and a senior member of both IEEE and ACM, as well as a fellow of CIPS.
