Biography

Timothy Liau is an Assistant Professor of Law at the London School of Economics. His primary research interests focus on remedies, contracts, unjust enrichment, and foundational questions concerning private law's basic concepts and structure. His work is frequently cited by apex courts worldwide, including the High Court of Australia and the Singapore Court of Appeal, and he has contributed to leading practitioner treatises such as Goff & Jones on Unjust Enrichment and Chitty on Contracts. His book, 'Standing Private Law' (Oxford University Press, 2023), received the Society of Legal Scholars’ Peter Birks Prize in 2024. Before joining LSE, he served as an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore and worked as a Stipendiary Lecturer in Law at Merton College, University of Oxford. Liau also co-convenes the 'Remedies and Restitution' section of the Society of Legal Scholars’ annual conference and retains roles as an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the EWB Centre for Law and Business and as an Associate Academic Fellow at the Centre for Legal Theory, NUS.
