Biography

Dr. Timothy Mariano is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from Harvard College and a Master of Science in cognitive neuroscience from the University of Oxford. Dr. Mariano completed the Medical Scientist Training Program at Case Western Reserve University, earning both MD and PhD degrees in biomedical engineering. His research interests include the development of novel technologies for treating neuropsychiatric diagnoses, particularly focusing on major depressive disorder and chronic pain. His work encompasses approaches such as noninvasive brain stimulation modalities including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFUS), as well as telehealth and digital mental health interventions. Prior to his role at Brown, Dr. Mariano was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and served as Medical Director of late-stage clinical development at Sage Therapeutics, overseeing multiple large clinical trials for major depressive disorder. He is currently also the Vice President of medical strategy at Woebot Health and has affiliations with the Providence VA Medical Center.
