Biography

Timothy Michael is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow at Lincoln College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on British Romanticism, delving into the philosophical dimensions of eighteenth-century literature. He has a keen interest in the interplay between literature and political theory, as well as literary criticism and aesthetics. Michael's current projects include a scholarly edition of Pope's prose under the guidance of Dr. Paddy Bullard, and he examines the responses of Romantic figures such as Burke, Wollstonecraft, and Wordsworth to the political climate of their time. His book, 'British Romanticism and the Critique of Political Reason,' published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2016, addresses critical questions regarding the role of reason in the formation of a free society. In addition to his research, he teaches various undergraduate papers on Romantic, Victorian, and Modern literature at Lincoln College, offering lectures on Romantic literature and supervising postgraduate seminars and DPhil students.
