Timothy Mutsvangwa is a Professor specializing in Ruminant Nutrition Metabolism. He was raised in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he started his journey by milking indigenous Bos indicus cows during school holidays. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Zimbabwe, followed by a Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and a Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition Metabolism from the University of Guelph. In September 2003, he joined the University of Saskatchewan as an Assistant Professor after completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Guelph. He has previously worked as a Principal Research Scientist in Dairy Nutrition Management at the Henderson Research Station in Zimbabwe. His research focuses on improving nitrogen utilization efficiency in ruminants, with emphasis on understanding the nutritional, physiological, and molecular mechanisms that regulate nitrogen recycling in the gut and its incorporation into microbial protein. His team employs isotopic techniques to study urea-nitrogen kinetics and has explored transitional body protein metabolism and its gene expression in dairy cows. Additionally, he has concentrated on evaluating feed and protein supplements in dairy cow diets.
