Dr. Timothy Simcoe

Biography

Professor Simcoe’s research covers topics in innovation, technology, intellectual property, and corporate strategy, with a particular expertise in standards and standards development. He has consulted for major corporations within the information technology sector and has made significant contributions to the understanding of how innovations are protected and advanced through intellectual property rights. In 2014-15, he served as a Senior Economist on President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, where he provided insights into the interplay between technology, innovation, and economic policy. Prior to his current position at Boston University, he held academic appointments at the University of Toronto and was involved in consulting practices at Ernst & Young LLP. He is recognized for his extensive academic work, including serving as a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and as an editor for various academic journals, including Management Science.
