Timothy Walsh is a professor of Medical Microbiology at the University of Oxford, where he leads research on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). With over 25 years of experience, he has made significant contributions to understanding the mechanisms behind AMR and its impact on human health. His primary research interests focus on the use of antimicrobials in animals and the clinical failures that drive AMR, especially in low to middle-income countries (LMICs). Walsh's work has been instrumental in establishing the Ineos Oxford Institute of Antimicrobial Research (IOI), where he serves as Director. His research group is dedicated to developing new non-human antibiotic compounds, screening new antimicrobials to combat AMR, and understanding the clinical economic burden of AMR in LMICs through spatial-temporal analysis of AMR dynamics. He actively collaborates with various teams across South Asia, Africa, and China, fostering opportunities for studentships and fellowships, particularly for individuals from LMICs.
