Dr. Timothy Ying

Biography

Timothy Ying has had a distinguished career as a violinist, performing with the Ying Quartet for over two decades. The group has appeared in major cities across North America and has toured Europe, the Far East, and Australia, performing at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and the White House. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous music festivals such as Aspen, Bowdoin, Caramoor, Hollywood Bowl, and Norfolk, showcasing a wide range of musical styles. The Ying Quartet is noted for its innovative collaborations, engaging with artists from various disciplines including dance, acting, and technology. Timothy is a recipient of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and has won Grammy awards, further establishing his reputation in the classical music scene. He has also commissioned and premiered works by contemporary composers and is dedicated to the academic study of music, holding degrees from the Juilliard School (BM), Western Illinois University (MA), and Eastman School (DMA). Timothy is actively involved in teaching at both the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with the next generation of musicians.
