Dr. Tina Van De Flierdt

Biography

Tina van de Flierdt is a Professor of Isotope Geochemistry and the Head of the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. Her academic background includes a Diploma in Geology from the University of Bonn and a PhD in Natural Sciences from ETH Zurich. She has held various positions at Imperial College London, including Reader and Senior Lecturer, and previously worked as an Adjunct Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University. Tina's research focuses on understanding chemical cycles of trace elements and pollutants in the ocean, as well as reconstructing ocean circulation and its relationship with climate, particularly in the context of polar ice sheets and their vulnerability to future climate change. She co-leads the MAGIC isotope facility at Imperial and is also involved in the international SWAIS 2C project, focusing on the Antarctic Ice Sheet's response to warmer temperatures and its implications for future sea level rise. Tina values interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork in her research endeavors.
