Dr. Tine Buffel

Biography

Tine Buffel is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester, where she leads the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG). Her research focuses on social gerontology and the impact of urbanization on aging populations, particularly examining social, political, and environmental issues. Buffel’s career showcases a commitment to community partnerships to study and address social justice issues and has a strong interest in understanding neighborhood dynamics, social inequality, and urban development. Her work employs participatory research methods and has led to significant policy impacts, including her involvement with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing. Buffel received several prestigious grants and fellowships, including the Research Leader Fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust for her project on urbanization and population aging.
