Dr. Tjidde Tempels

Biography

Tjidde Tempels is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science at Radboud University, where he also coordinates the research hotspot on Sustainable Democracy. His research interests encompass both democratic and non-democratic theories, focusing particularly on democratic innovation, business ethics, and political corporate responsibility. Tjidde aims to further understand the political involvement of firms in democracies and the moral implications of such engagement. His interdisciplinary research investigates the roles that large corporate actors—often referred to as Big Tech, Big Food, and Big Oil—play in politics and governance, and the impact of their political activities on the functioning and quality of democracy. Furthermore, Tjidde is committed to creating innovative and engaging courses, emphasizing the importance of excellent educational programs in Political Science. His teaching covers political theory, applied ethics, and a variety of related topics, and he is currently developing an interest in Confucian political thought. Tjidde's personal PhD project, 'Food Virtues: Corporate Social Responsibility in the Food Industry,' highlights the complex relationship between corporate practices and public health issues.
