Dr. Tobias Axelsson

Biography

Tobias Axelsson is a Senior Lecturer at Lund University specializing in the field of Economic History with a focus on developing regions, particularly in Southeast Asia. His research interests encompass the structural transformation processes associated with modern economic growth, emphasizing agricultural change. He also investigates economic dynamics during the colonial period and examines how these historical contexts influence current development trajectories in the Global South. In addition to his research, Axelsson is involved in teaching courses primarily related to economic history and development studies, providing students with historical perspectives on the growth dynamics of developing nations, especially in Asia Pacific, China, and India. As the Director of Studies for the bachelor program in Development Studies at Lund University, he is responsible for course coordination and supervising students at both bachelor and master levels. He actively contributes to projects addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on poverty alleviation and global prosperity.
