Biography

Tobias Berg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Oncology at McMaster University, focusing his research on understanding the determinants of treatment response in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He is dedicated to developing novel treatment approaches based on this understanding. Professor Berg has extensive experience with modern treatment methodologies, including allogeneic stem cell transplantation, which has shown to result in remission for some AML patients; however, the challenge remains as many patients experience relapse, making AML a particularly difficult condition to treat. His areas of expertise include cancer diagnosis, molecular targets in cancer, cancer progression and metastasis, and hematological tumors. In addition to his academic role, Tobias is a full-time member of the Centre Discovery Cancer Research (CDCR) and the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute (ECRI) at McMaster. He has advanced training in hematology and medical oncology, and holds a PhD equivalent, with certifications from various medical organizations. His prior research experience includes postdoctoral fellowships at leading institutions and collaborative research projects in immunology and transplantation.
