Dr. Tobias Dennerlein

Biography

Tobias Dennerlein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at the Mitch Daniels School of Business, Purdue University. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a Master of Science in Business Economics from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Dennerlein's research primarily focuses on how managers' leadership styles, particularly empowering leadership, influence employee motivation and their subsequent behavior, including job performance and creativity. He employs experimental and cross-sectional research methods and collaborates with corporate partners to tackle leadership and people-related challenges. His work has been featured in prominent academic journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and has attracted media attention from outlets including The Economist, The Conversation, and Forbes. In his previous role at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, he taught executive MBA courses on leadership, motivation, and conflict. Dennerlein is an active member of the academic community, serving on the Editorial Review Board of Human Relations and presenting at international conferences like the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
