Tobias Overath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University. His research lab investigates how sound is processed in the human brain, particularly focusing on the acoustic building blocks that are assembled during complex listening situations, such as engaging in conversation or listening to a symphony. His research program centers on neural representation of fundamental acoustic parameters, including pitch and timbre, as well as the neural mechanisms involved in detecting meaningful acoustic changes in auditory scenes. Since joining Duke, he has been an active member of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, where he collaborates with colleagues on various projects related to auditory processing and cognitive functions associated with hearing.
