Biography

Tobias Reinhardt is a Professor of Latin Language and Literature at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford. He obtained his teaching qualifications through the Staatsexamen from the University of Frankfurt, followed by a Master's and a Doctorate from Oxford. His academic journey began in Germany, where his undergraduate studies caught the attention of Oxford scholars, leading him to apply for graduate work at Oxford. He had the good fortune to be jointly supervised during his doctorate and subsequently held a Junior Research Fellowship at Merton College. With six years of experience as a Fellow Tutor in Latin and Greek at Somerville College, he returned to Corpus Christi. His research focuses on Latin prose, ancient rhetoric, and literary criticism, alongside Latin didactic poetry, bridging the fields of classical literature and ancient philosophy. Reinhardt’s approach integrates close philological analysis with broader interests in the intellectual history of Greco-Roman culture, emphasizing public debate and the practical implications of philosophical and rhetorical doctrines in everyday life.
