Biography

Tobias Tanton completed his MPhil and DPhil in Theology at the University of Oxford. He subsequently held a post-doctoral fellowship in Science-Engaged Theology at the University of Cambridge and later served as a lecturer in theology at Ripon College Cuddesdon. Currently, he is a Tutor in Theology at Harris Manchester College and is involved as a Fellow in the New Visions Theological Anthropology project hosted by the University of St Andrews. He is also a Fellow in the Psychology Cross-training Fellowship Programme for Theologians at the University of Birmingham. His doctoral research examines systematic theology dialogues in the emerging area of cognitive science known as 'embodied cognition', addressing how factors such as emotional body states and perceptual interactions engage with material culture in cognitive processes. His work explores how these findings relate to liturgical theology and theological concepts, particularly the principle of divine accommodation, and currently investigates the intersections of psychology and ecotheology.
