Biography

Toby Litt is an English writer known for his short stories, novels, and diaries. He was born in Bedford and grew up in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. He studied English Literature at Worcester College, Oxford. From 1994-1995, he attended the University of East Anglia's MA Creative Writing program as part of Malcolm Bradbury's final workshop group. His debut book, Adventures Capitalism, was published in 1996. In 2003, Toby was included in Granta's Young British Novelists. Between 2008 and 2023, he taught Creative Writing at Birkbeck College, University of London, where he ran an MFA in Creative Writing. Notable students include Abi Daré, Saba Sams, Amer Anwar, and JJ Bola. He has won several awards including a fellowship from the Royal Society of Literature in 2023.
