Biography

Toby Martin is an Assistant Director (Award-Bearing Accredited) at Oxford Lifelong Learning, University of Oxford, where he is responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate academic provision across various subject areas, including online and in-person accredited and unaccredited short courses. He joined the department in 2018 after completing his PhD at the University of Sheffield. Prior to his current role, Toby was a British Academy postdoctoral fellow and worked as a Departmental Lecturer in the School of Archaeology at the University of Oxford. His professional career includes roles as a developer-funded archaeology academic advisor, researcher, specialist consultant, and fieldworker. Additionally, Toby serves as the editor of 'Anglo-Saxon Studies in Archaeology and History' and holds a council member position at the Society for Medieval Archaeology. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he actively researches and publishes works on social archaeology, material culture studies, materials analysis, and network analysis based on results from archaeological excavations. Toby is also involved in DPhil supervision, particularly focusing on topics related to early medieval archaeology, including material culture and burial archaeology.
