Biography

Tod G. Hamilton is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Princeton University and a Faculty Associate at the Office of Population Research. His research focuses on patterns of migration and social inequality and how these factors shape population health, social mobility, and demographic change. By connecting historical and contemporary processes, he addresses broader questions of population dynamics and social stratification. His work has been published in leading journals in the field, including Demography, the Annual Review of Sociology, the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Social Science & Medicine, Demographic Research, and the American Journal of Epidemiology. He is the author of 'Immigration and the Remaking of Black America,' which documents how immigration has transformed the composition and experiences of the U.S. Black population since the 1960s. This book offers a comprehensive methodological and theoretical approach to understanding the integration of Black immigrants in the United States from the early twentieth century to the early twenty-first century, providing insights into the mechanisms that drive changes in racial disparities across various contexts, including health, education, and labor markets. His work on 'Immigration and the Remaking of Black America' received the 2020 Otis Dudley Duncan Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Social Demography from the American Sociological Association, as well as an Honorable Mention for the 2020 Thomas Znaniecki Award from the ASA’s International Migration Section.
