Todd Brun received his Ph.D. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1994. He has worked at the University of London, the Institute of Theoretical Physics, the Santa Barbara, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He joined the faculty of the University of Southern California in 2003 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and Full Professor in 2013. He holds a primary appointment in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with joint appointments in the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. At USC, Professor Brun has served as Associate Chair of Electrical Engineering from 2007 to 2009, Vice Chair in 2015/16, and Chair from 2018 to 2020 of the Engineering Faculty Council. He has also served as a Senator in the USC Academic Senate for the Viterbi School of Engineering. Additionally, he served as Vice Chair in 2016, Chair Elect in 2017, Chair in 2018, and Past Chair in 2019 for the American Physical Society's Division of Quantum Information. Professor Brun's research focuses on quantum computation and quantum information theory, with a particular interest in quantum open systems, decoherence, environmental noise effects on quantum information processing, and quantum error correction.
