Todd Brun received a Ph.D. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1994. He has worked at the University of London, Institute of Theoretical Physics, the Santa Barbara campus, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He joined the faculty at the University of Southern California in 2003 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and Full Professor in 2013. His primary appointment is with the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with joint appointments in the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. At USC, Professor Brun has served as Associate Chair of Electrical Engineering from 2007 to 2009, Vice Chair in 2015/16, and Chair from 2018 to 2020 of the Engineering Faculty Council. He has also been a Senator in the USC Academic Senate. Additionally, he held the positions of Vice Chair (2016), Chair Elect (2017), Chair (2018), and Past Chair (2019) of the American Physical Society's Division of Quantum Information. His research focuses on quantum computation and quantum information theory, with particular interest in quantum open systems, decoherence, the effects of environmental noise on quantum information processing, and quantum error correction.
