Biography

Todd Duffield graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) at the University of Guelph in 1990 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. After working for four years in a large dairy practice in Eastern Ontario, he returned to the OVC in 1994 and completed his Doctor of Veterinary Science (DVSc) in 1997. Now a Professor and Chair of the Department of Population Medicine at OVC, he has taught numerous undergraduate veterinary courses and is deeply involved in dairy research and graduate supervision. He has authored and co-authored 240 peer-reviewed articles focusing on aspects of dairy health management, including metabolic disease and welfare of dairy animals. His research interests include metabolic diseases like ketosis, hypocalcemia, and subacute rumen acidosis, with a focus on minimizing pain and improving welfare among dairy cows. He has shared his expertise at various international venues. His academic contributions have earned him recognition and awards within the veterinary field.
