Todd Duhamel is a Red River Métis citizen from Atikokan, Ontario, currently a Professor at the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba. He is also the Principal Investigator for the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at St. Boniface General Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre in Winnipeg. Duhamel completed his PhD in Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo in 2007 and underwent postdoctoral training at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba in 2008. His research primarily focuses on the role of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of frailty and cardiovascular disease, utilizing exercise physiology to identify novel therapeutic targets within signaling pathways that regulate cardiovascular and skeletal muscle health. In addition to his research, he serves as Associate Vice-President (Indigenous) for Research and Academic at the University of Manitoba. He has received several accolades including the University of Manitoba Graduate Student Association Teaching Award in 2013 and recognition in CBC Manitoba’s Future 40 in 2015. His contributions extend to creating a research-informed application titled 'ENCOURAGE: Move to Sit in Workplace.'
