Biography

Todd Ehlers is a Professor and the Head of the School of Geographical & Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow. With an impressive academic background, he has previously been associated with prominent institutions such as the University of Tübingen, Germany, where he served as a Professor, and the University of Michigan, USA, as an Associate Professor and Associate Chair. His research interests span the interactions between climate, tectonics, surface processes, and biotic influences on mountain ranges and sedimentary basins. His research group engages in diverse projects that integrate field observations with geochemical data and physics-based modeling to understand the complexities of landscape evolution and lithospheric deformation. Currently, his work emphasizes quantifying the rates and magnitudes of processes that shape the Earth's surface, with a focus on understanding the feedback mechanisms among biotic, geologic, atmospheric, and geomorphic processes. He employs multidisciplinary approaches utilizing numerical modeling, field observations, and a variety of advanced geophysical and geochemical techniques. Professor Ehlers has received several accolades, including the Ralph Alger Bagnold Medal from the European Geosciences Union and has been an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh since 2025. He is also recognized as a Moore Distinguished Scholar at the California Institute of Technology for the 2021-2022 period, demonstrating his significant contribution to the field of Earth sciences.
