Biography

Tok Thompson was born and raised in rural Alaska. At the age of 17, he began attending Harvard College, where he received his bachelor's degree in Anthropology. He subsequently earned a Master's degree in Folklore from the University of California, Berkeley. Following this, Tok completed a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the same institution in 2002. He engaged in a two-year postdoctoral position at the Centre for Irish-Scottish Studies at Trinity College, Dublin, where he helped launch a new M.Phil. program in Translation Studies. His research interests include Folklore, Popular Culture, Mythology, Minority Languages, Internet, and Posthumanism. Tok has published numerous works, including books and articles on various aspects of folklore and its presence in contemporary culture. His educational and research endeavors have significantly contributed to the understanding of these subjects. He is an active participant in the academic community, serving on various committees and engaging in outreach initiatives.
