Biography

Tolga Ozyurtcu is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as the undergraduate coordinator. Ozyurtcu earned a B.A. in Political Science from Haverford College, an M.Sc. in Sport Management from UT Austin, and a Ph.D. in Physical Culture and Sports Studies from UT Austin. He teaches courses in Sport Management and Physical Culture, covering topics such as management of sport organizations, media and public relations in sport, and the historical, philosophical, and ethical issues surrounding sport and physical activity. As an experienced coach and consultant in the sport industry, Ozyurtcu is committed to engaging students by combining practical and theoretical approaches in the study of sport. His research interests include the history of sporting subcultures, sport cultural geography, and the innovation in physical culture. He previously served on the Executive Council of the North American Society for Sport History and organized the 2024 symposium titled 'Sports Technology Innovation: New Perspectives' at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
