Biography

Tasleemah Tolulope Lawal, known as Tolu, is a lecturer at Columbia Law School. She is dedicated to racial justice and has worked as a legal fellow at the New York City Commission on Human Rights, focusing on legislative policy analysis, public education, community collaboration, and legal research with a race-specific focus on restorative and transformative justice. A former student at NYU School of Law, Tolu served as the co-chair of the Black Allied Law Student Association and was one of the lead organizers for the Racism Lives campaign. She has interned at the ACLU's Racial Justice Project in 2017 and worked in NYU’s Juvenile Defenders Clinic from 2018 to 2019. Tolu is also a co-founder and co-lead organizer of Unlock Bar, a campaign that builds coalitions among law students and lawyers impacted by systemic inequities, advocating for a more equitable legal profession.
