Biography

Tom Brown is a Professor of Nucleic Acid Chemistry with research interests centered around nucleic acid chemistry and its applications in biology and medicine. He is a co-inventor of several technologies for genetic analysis and a co-founder of successful Biotech companies including Oswel, Primer Design, and ATDBio. Over his career, he has published approximately 450 research papers and holds numerous patents. His research has notably contributed to COVID-19 diagnostics. Tom has received several prestigious awards, including the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Josef Loschmidt prize and the RSC award for Nucleic Acid Chemistry. He was recognized as Chemistry World entrepreneur of the year in 2014 and UK BBSRC research council Innovator of the Year in 2016. Tom is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and has served as President of the Chemistry Biology Interface Division of the RSC. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the RSC Book series Chemical Biology and co-Chair of the EuCheMS congress in Liverpool in 2018.
