Dr. Tom Cherrett

Biography

Tom Cherrett is a Professor of Logistics Transport Management at the University of Southampton, where he leads the Transportation Research Group. His teaching spans various topics including freight logistics, transport planning, and construction management for both undergraduate and master's level students. He is the co-ordinator of the SUCCESS Scholarship Scheme and has been involved in several influential research projects such as CITYLAB and Southampton Delivery Servicing Plans, which focus on enhancing the efficiency of freight vehicle activity and sustainable transport strategies. Cherrett has an extensive background in logistics, having contributed significantly to improving distribution systems and exploring the application of Intelligent Transport Systems. Over the years, he has published numerous works and delivered presentations on topics like reverse logistics and visibility in supply chains. His research interests lie primarily in understanding and optimizing logistics operations and freight vehicle management within urban contexts. Cherrett has supervised multiple successful PhD completions and engages actively with external organizations to promote advancements in transport and logistics.
