Biography

Tom Curry has been a faculty member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Mead Witter School of Music since 2014. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a Master of Music degree in tuba performance from Northwestern University, along with degrees in tuba performance and communication arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, he is the tubist with the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, the faculty ensemble-in-residence at the Mead Witter School of Music. Curry has performed with various orchestras including the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Philharmonic. In 2022, he performed with the Meridian Arts Ensemble, a brass ensemble that specializes in new music. As a Miraphone performing artist, he engages in solo and compositional activities, showcasing interests in the application of electronics in music, immersive sonic environments, and improvisation. He has commissioned and premiered works for the tuba in numerous contexts and has been invited to perform at various conferences and festivals, including the New York City Electroacoustic Music Conference and the International Tuba Euphonium Conference. His recent recordings include 'Credo' (2024) and 'Impromptus' (2024), along with other projects featuring both solo and collaborative efforts.
