De Bruin serves as the general editor of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies and is an editorial board member of the Journal of the Study of Pseudepigrapha. His current research focuses on Fan Studies, particularly as they relate to ancient and contemporary Christianity, and the cultural reception of themes such as Satan and demons in ancient Christianity. He is open to inquiries from prospective PhD students, particularly on topics related to fan fiction and science fiction.
