Biography

Professor Tom Hase has been at the University of Warwick since 2006, specializing in applying X-ray scattering spectroscopy to study materials. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Durham, focusing on thin metallic films using X-ray reflectivity. His post-doctoral studies involved developing soft X-ray scattering techniques for magnetic materials, examining the correlation between interface structure and observed magnetic properties. Professor Hase's research interests cover a wide range of materials, including amorphous metals, single crystals, and soft matter, though magnetic materials and thin films remain his primary focus. Recently, he has worked on medium-energy X-ray scattering and developing new experimental strategies to explore patterned materials. He is actively engaged with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility as a co-director of the XMaS beamline and is involved in various panels and committees that promote the use of synchrotron facilities and enhance education at the tertiary level.
