Tom Huiskamp is an associate professor in the research group Electrical Energy Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His primary research area is nanosecond high-voltage pulsed power technology, focusing on transient plasma generation for environmental applications, such as air purification and producing plasma-activated water as a pesticide alternative in agriculture. Huiskamp's studies encompass the entire chain of novel pulsed high-voltage circuits and the interaction of plasma within these circuits, combined with fundamental studies of plasma applications. His research interests include miniature nanosecond pulsed power technology and flexible, programmable high-voltage pulse circuits for CO2 plasma applications related to future fuel switching. The primary goal of his research is to create circuits that can generate extremely short high-voltage pulses, leading to plasma generation for environmental purposes and sustainable agricultural solutions. Huiskamp obtained his MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology, where he graduated cum laude. His PhD research centered on nanosecond pulsed power-induced corona plasmas for air purification, conducted within the Electrical Energy Systems research group. Following his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher and became an assistant professor in 2016, with a visiting scientist position at the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology in Germany and a research associate role at the University of Southern California focusing on marine diesel emissions remediation using pulsed plasma technology.
