Dr. Tom Lippincott

Biography

Thomas 'Tom' Lippincott is an associate research professor in the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. He serves as the director of the Center for Digital Humanities and is an affiliate of the Center for Language and Speech Processing. His research primarily focuses on machine learning, particularly in its application to facilitate traditional scholarship in the humanities. This includes the use of unsupervised models for structured interpretability and exploring isomorphism within his domain of interest. Lippincott obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Computer Science from the University of Chicago in 2006, followed by a Master of Science in Computer Science from Columbia University in 2008, and a PhD in Computational Linguistics from the University of Cambridge in 2015. He has also been involved in various interdisciplinary projects, including collaboration with the Hopkins Bloomberg Center.
