Biography

Tom Pegram is a Professor of Global Politics at University College London (UCL) in the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy. He serves as the Director of the UCL Global Governance Institute and is the Programme Director for the MSc in Global Governance Ethics. Professor Pegram's research is centered on institutional dynamics in global governance, human rights, and environmental politics. His work examines how international norms and institutions influence domestic outcomes, particularly focusing on the design and performance of national human rights institutions amid complex global risks. He joined UCL in 2011 and has previously held academic positions at Trinity College Dublin, New York University School of Law, and Harvard Law School. He also has academic ties to Nuffield College, Oxford, and is a Visiting Lecturer at the Royal College of Defence Studies. Throughout his tenure at UCL, he has taken on various departmental and cross-institutional roles and has led significant research engagement initiatives as part of his leadership in the Global Governance Institute.
