Biography

Tom Schryver teaches entrepreneurship and venture capital at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and serves as the David J. BenDaniel Faculty Advisor for the BR Ventures Fund. He is an entrepreneur and angel investor who has previously served as a startup founder and senior executive in high-growth companies. Schryver has structured new companies and raised capital from private venture capital, venture debt, and grants through loans from local, state, and federal agencies. Before his teaching role at Johnson, he worked as an investment banker and institutional investor, and led a private family foundation to achieve top-quartile investment returns. In addition to his teaching duties, Schryver serves as the executive director of the Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA), which is part of Cornell's Office of Vice President for Research and Innovation. In this role, he directs a National Science Foundation-funded I-Corps Hub, where he is the lead instructor and serves on the NSF I-Corps Hub Council. CREA oversees several programs designed to support individuals starting and growing new businesses, including I-Corps Hub, Rev: Ithaca Startup Works, and Grow-NY, a food and agriculture innovation competition among others. Schryver is chair of the Business Incubator Association of New York State and contributes to various boards and councils in the region.
