Biography

Professor Tom Sharbaugh brings over 35 years of practical experience to the classroom. Before joining Penn State, Tom was the firm-wide managing partner of operations at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP, a global law firm based in Philadelphia with more than 3,100 employees. He held this position for 15 years, overseeing day-to-day operations and serving as a partner in the Business & Finance Practice Group, where he represented a diverse range of clients in transactional corporate matters, including private equity funds, mergers and acquisitions, and investment transactions. He has a particular interest in start-ups and early-stage businesses seeking funding. Tom has authored several articles and delivered presentations on legal issues affecting small businesses, including securities laws relevant to capital raising and unregistered offerings. He previously worked as a partner at Saul Ewing LLP, representing middle market companies in general corporate matters. Tom actively participates in volunteer roles at several educational and non-profit institutions, serving as the chair of the Annual Giving Advisory Council and the President’s Club at Penn State, as well as being a member of the Campaign Executive Committee for the current capital campaign, Greater Penn State. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Penn Medicine Health System in Philadelphia and serves as the Chair of the Board of Managers of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, along with being a member of the Board of Directors of Mount Nittany Conservancy.
