Sustainable Green Chemistry aims to make chemicals related industries environmentally and economically sustainable. I am interested in using an exciting class of solvents - ionic liquids - to improve chemical processes. I have worked on ionic liquids throughout my research career, and the interest of academic and commercial chemists in this area has increased dramatically. I hope my work has made a significant contribution to changing attitudes in this field. My research covers a broad range of the chemical sciences, and I have authored papers in traditional branches of the subject, including Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry. My work includes both fundamental and applied studies. Currently, I focus on clean synthesis and processing of biomass-derived polymers and materials to replace petrochemical-based plastics. My aim is to understand how ionic liquids influence reaction processes and to provide effective chemical processes that match optimal reaction environments. Additionally, I am interested in how changing ionic liquid processing conditions can alter the material properties of the resulting products. I conduct research in collaboration with members of the Faculty of Engineering, exploring fundamental properties of ionic liquids and investigating their effects on reaction rates and physical characteristics.
