Biography

Tomas Björklund is a Professor and Research Team Manager at Lund University, specializing in Molecular Neuromodulation. He is a key member of the Strategic Research Area, MultiPark, focusing on multidisciplinarity in neurodegenerative diseases. His primary research revolves around developing advanced therapeutic medical products (ATMPs), particularly cell and gene therapy for Parkinson's disease and investigating treatments for glioblastomas and brain tumors. He utilizes advanced machine learning and AI to tailor synthetic vectors for precise cell targeting to enable long-term treatments for complex disorders. His laboratory employs human model systems, including stem cell-based organoids, to validate new therapies and ensure their feasibility for clinical application. Driven by curiosity, Tomas is passionate about merging medicine with molecular biology, mathematics, and computation on large data sets. He actively collaborates with medical doctors, biologists, and engineers and promotes entrepreneurship to bring new therapies closer to the clinic.
