Biography

Tomás Carlo Joglar is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Penn State University, where he focuses on the fields of Behavior Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2005, an M.S. from North Carolina State University in 1999, and a B.S. from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez in 1996. Following his education, he completed postdoctoral training at the University of Washington from 2005 to 2008. His research interests encompass seed dispersal ecology, foraging behavior, and plant ecology, particularly how animals, especially fruit-eating birds, interact with plants to influence seed dispersal and plant community dynamics. In his lab, various methodologies, including stable-isotope techniques, are employed to track seed fate and trophic interactions, with significant research being conducted across regions in the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, as well as in Argentina, Brazil, and Pennsylvania.
