Biography

Tomas de Rezende Rocha is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at the University of Washington. His research interests include Equity Studies and Historical & Philosophical Foundations of Education. He critically examines ethical and political concepts related to justice, equity, solidarity, and human flourishing in the context of educational practices and structures. Rocha focuses on political ethics, teacher unionism, and the role of Latin American testimonio in educational research. He is currently writing about climate change education, the political dimensions of Buddhist-based mindfulness, and frameworks that may improve open educational practices. He has published extensively on the intersection of philosophy and education and serves as an associate editor for the journal LÁPIZ, as well as co-editor of a forthcoming book that pairs teachers and philosophers for collaborative essays. He teaches courses on educational ethics and the philosophical foundations of educational research and mentors both master's and doctoral students in the Social & Cultural Foundations program.
