Biography

Associate Professor Tomoko Soga is the Director of the Animal Research Platform and leads the Social Stress Mental Health Research group at Monash University. She joined in 2006 after working at the National Institute of Neuroscience in Japan. Soga obtained her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the Kyoto Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing her PhD at the Nippon Medical School, with a postdoctoral fellowship at Rockefeller University in New York. Her research focuses on the neuronal mechanisms of depression, specifically the serotonergic pathways involved in social stress-induced depression. Soga has published over 50 papers in high-impact journals such as Endocrinology, Neuropharmacology, and PNAS and has received the Narishige Award from the Neuroscience Japan Foundation for her significant contributions to the field. Additionally, she serves as an associate guest editor for several journals and is a council member of the Asia Oceania Society for Comparative Endocrinology.
