Dr. Ton Dieker

Biography

Ton Dieker is a Professor at the Data Science Institute at Columbia University, specializing in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. His research focuses on random processes, computer simulation algorithms, and the development of tools that utilize data systems to make predictions in modified environments. His work is particularly relevant for regulators in predicting bank responses to financial shocks, as well as for scientists forecasting future climate carbon-emission rates and engineers optimizing factory layouts for enhanced performance. Dieker has a specific interest in tractable approximations of performance metrics in stochastic networks, which aid in rapidly exploring initial designs and significantly reduce the computational demands of simulation tasks. His work has potential applications in improving operational efficiencies within hospitals and other industries. He earned a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2002 and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Amsterdam in 2006.
