Professor Dr. Ton Hoenselaars

Biography

Ton Hoenselaars is an Emeritus Professor of Early Modern English Literature at Utrecht University. His research primarily concentrates on early modern English literature, with a particular emphasis on Shakespeare and the international relations depicted in his works. Hoenselaars has published extensively on the image of nations in Renaissance literature and translation, tracing Shakespeare's influence on European culture from 1600 to the present day. He is the author of significant works such as 'Images of Englishmen and Foreigners in the Drama of Shakespeare and His Contemporaries' and has edited numerous collections, including 'Shakespeare’s Italy' and 'Italian World English Renaissance Drama'. His contributions also include published essays in the 'Cambridge Companion to Shakespeare' and 'Multilingualism in Drama of Shakespeare and His Contemporaries'. Currently, he is completing a monograph on Shakespeare and World War II and has served as the Sam Wanamaker Fellow at Shakespeare's Globe in London. Hoenselaars' distinguished career and academic contributions have made him a notable figure in the study of early modern English literature.
