Biography

Tonguç Yaman, DrPH, MPH, CHCIO, is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. He teaches various courses including 'Applied Regression', 'Categorical Data Analysis', and 'Principles of Epidemiology III' in the Online MS Epidemiology program. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Bogaziçi University and his Master's degree in Health Policy Management from Columbia University. In October 2024, he will complete his Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) at Columbia, with a focus on data visualization and modeling to support informed public health decision-making. Yaman was born and raised in Türkiye and has lived in multiple countries including Switzerland, England, Canada, the Netherlands, and the United States, which provides him with a global perspective in his work. Since 2006, he has made significant contributions to healthcare systems in New York City and the surrounding area, notably by leading the development of advanced information systems for community physicians to leverage technology effectively. With a strong technical foundation from roles at Citibank, IBM, and Dell, he integrates artificial intelligence tools into his teaching, preparing students for a data-driven public health landscape. In January 2022, he joined the Board of Directors at Phoenix House NY/LI, contributing to the Real Estate, Audit, Risk & Compliance Committees. Outside of academics, he is an avid athlete who has completed seven marathons and enjoys various outdoor activities.
