Dr. Tongwen Chen

Biography

Tongwen Chen is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Intelligent Monitoring Control at the University of Alberta, specifically within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has received his BEng degree in Automation Instrumentation from Tsinghua University in Beijing, followed by MASc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto. In 2021, he was honored with the Outstanding Engineer Award from IEEE Canada for his exceptional contributions to the theory and applications of computer control systems, networked control, and advanced alarm management design. Dr. Chen is a fellow of several prestigious organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. His research interests are centered around dynamic systems across various domains, focusing particularly on Control Systems. He aims to deepen the understanding of controlled behavior in complex dynamic systems, often involving computer networks for information exchange. His work has significant implications in the fields of control systems and signal processing, with practical applications in Canadian industry.
